What is your philosophy about giving back to the community?
Giving back to a community teaches valuable lessons. As a young kid I grew up with a father who was a police officer in our local town and a mother who is a nurse. Both parents served the community by protecting and healing. My step father was a tradesman by work but a grill master by heart. That said, I learned many lessons on giving back. In 2016, The City of Baton Rouge had a major flood and called for help. My stepfather and I teamed up with a company in our local town and cooked over 5,000 plates of food to help the families who had lost their homes have at least a warm, cooked meal during the unexpected tragedy. Giving back to a community brings the community together, boosts moral, and overall, it builds relations with each person involved.
What is the most exciting thing about working in this business?
As a new path for new opportunities, working with The Crowther Group everyday is something new. Being in the field working, you get to see the completion of a project from start to finish whether it be a remodel or a ground up –the view is never the same. You see people who have never worked together become a team and work hard to complete the job. It is definitely a rewarding feeling when you see customers and employees walk into a newly remodeled environment.
Name a technology innovation that has made an impact in construction or an area where there are opportunities for innovation.
Technology has a huge impact on every job in the construction business. A great example is the project management application we use called Procore. Procore can be used on any device from a computer all the way to a smartphone. My favorite thing about the product is being able to access the blueprints to the job from the tip of your finger versus the actual paper plans. There are many more pros to the application but to keep everyone interested I will leave it for you to explore!
Tell us about the role you have in the company.
I was born and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi — home of the first bottled Coca-Cola. In December of 2018, I moved to the Houston area where I was given the opportunity to join The Crowther Group as an Assistant Superintendent. Roles of my occupation are working closely with the Superintendent on the job. For instance, I am required to reach out to contractors to help initialize a schedule of work on the job, order materials for the site, and most importantly understand the plans and scope of work being executed on site.
