What is the most exciting thing about working in this business?
Growing up I’ve always liked challenging myself physically and mentally. In this business, you’ll definitely do both. I love the feeling you get at the end of every day at work, being able to see the progress you and your team have made and consistently watching that progress turn into a completed project.
For me, I also love meeting new people and getting to know about different cultures. I’ve learned that construction is full of the most diverse group of people in terms of their skills, intellectual levels, personalities, and ethnic backgrounds. So for me, growing up in the small town of Vernal Utah, being exposed to a bigger world has definitely been one of the most rewarding things about working in this business.
What is your philosophy about giving back to the community?
I truly believe that the happiest people aren’t the ones getting the most, they are the ones giving the most. Volunteers don’t get paid because they’re worthless, it’s because they’re priceless. I feel you should always try and give back to your community, in one way or another. Being in construction, we build for the future of the communities we live and work in. Being able to give as I work is a bonus.
Name a technology innovation that has made an impact in construction or an area where there are opportunities for innovation
Technology has always driven construction forward. Companies are able to build stronger, taller, and more energy-saving structures. Technology has made construction sites safer and workers more efficient. It has allowed us to increase productivity, improve collaboration, and tackle more complex projects. Sometimes I think about what these jobsites would be today without technology, without power tools — we’d be cutting boards and drilling holes by hand! Without heavy equipment, laborers would be excavating sites and digging trenches with shovels and pickaxes! Without the elevator, buildings could only be a few stories tall! And today, there are software and mobile solutions to help manage every aspect of our construction projects. From preconstruction to scheduling, from project management and field reporting to managing your bank office, there’s a software solution out there to help streamline your process and improve productivity. To me, it’s amazing!
Tell us an awesome fact about yourself or the role you have in the company.
I grew up in the small town of Vernal, Utah. I was a three-time State Champion wrestler in high school, and I was also on the varsity golf team—go figure! I’m the older brother of three younger sisters, and I grew up in an old school oil field family. I’ve lived and worked all over the United States, but ever since I came to Texas five years ago, I have called it my home. To that, I have to say, after meeting and spending time The Crowther Group team, all have helped me and welcomed me with open arms. I know without a doubt, that this is truly a special company and a special group of people.
