Dallas Area Rapid Transit City Place

Project Description:

The Crowther Group was awarded the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) Cityplace/Uptown Red and Blue Line platform extension project. The six-month project was an upgrade of the existing DART train station terminal that’s ten stories below the North Central Expressway. The DART runs around Dallas, Texas, and 12 surrounding cities with modern public transit services and customer facilities tailored to make the trip fast, comfortable, and economical. The DART service moves more than 220,000 daily passengers across a 700-square-mile service area.

Fun Facts:

The project took place during an international pandemic and was considered an “Essential” project. During COVID, this project was one of two active Crowther Projects; Crowther had to deal with all the side effects of COVID. The light rail line platform extension project was in an operational station located a mile underground. The work had to be completed during non-active rail transport time. Included in the scope was demolition, electrical, mechanical, and interior finish out. The team worked only when trains were not running (roughly a 4-hour window nightly), working in an unsecured area in a very urban location and having a laydown area 1-mile away accessible only by rail. Crowther chose innovative approaches to scheduling using a strategically sequenced approach that met the challenges of delivering materials, securing the site during construction, and managing it all under tight timelines.
