What is the most exciting thing about working in this business?
The most exciting thing about working in this business is watching construction plans get built and growing and learning along the way. A couple of years ago I would not have thought about working in the construction industry. Thomas Crowther served as a great example of the benefits of working in this industry and convinced me that I could do it! With my military background, I am disciplined and really enjoy watching things come together through great planning and execution.
What is your philosophy about giving back to the community?
First and foremost, giving back is the right thing to do! It always makes me happy to be of service to others. I started volunteering as a teenager and have not looked back. Whether it’s helping the elderly or coaching/mentoring our youth, I always feel good after helping others and giving back to my community. I wish I had more time and resources to help more people.
Name a technology innovation that has made an impact in construction or an area where there are opportunities for innovation.
Technology has played an enormous role in the construction industry. The fact that you can do most of your job from a phone or tablet is amazing. It provides instant access to data and allows for accurate field operations. It is also super convenient! I cannot imagine doing this job without technology. Real-time data and communication allow us to make timely decisions and communicate accurately with all of our team members – keeping our projects on track and on time!
Tell us an awesome fact about yourself or the role you have in the company.
I served four years on a ballistic missile submarine; nine years total in the United States Navy. The organizational skills and discipline you learn in the Navy, provide an excellent foundation for a construction career, as you have to use these skills every day to keep you project on track.
