DISD Louise Kahn/Cesar Chavez Elementary

Project Description:

Louise Kahn Elementary School and Cesar Chavez Elementary School are a two Combo School Package Award. Both schedules will run concurrently on separate Dallas ISD campuses. Each school campus project includes upgrades/replacements to the existing roofs, administration areas, lighting fixtures, grease traps, and exterior marquees. On Kahn ES, we are doing a complete upgrade of the HVAC system. Due to the school remaining active all year long, the majority of construction activities. must be completed at night and during school breaks. When the school is in operation, all systems must function without any impedance. Therefore, all repairs must be done on a one-to-one basis.

Fun Facts:

The architects and engineers wanted to replace the chillers at both campuses and RTUs on Chavez; however, due to project constraints, not all scope items were achievable. Crowther Group was instrumental in proposing VE opportunities that would allow most of the upgrades to be completed, operate within budget, and ensure the students still have a comfortable learning environment. Additionally, other contractors were unable to bid on the project due to the complexity of the project. Crowther Group was able to leverage our relationship with a highly respected and trusted mechanical trade partner to complete HVAC scopes of work. Lastly, Chavez is a landlocked home. Because of the nighttime schedule constraints, the community raised concerns about the construction activities at night; to ensure we met the project schedule while being great neighbors, we partnered with the roofing subcontractor to work a condensed but highly efficient schedule to ensure the residents remained happy, but the students had/have a remodeled school to learn in.
